the Project
The Glauber Rocha Films Collection Project in 4K, conceived by Paloma Rocha, stems from the desire to preserve secure master copies and systematize digital access to Glauber Rocha's films restored in 4K. The films are part of his vast intellectual output, comprising 22,000 pages in a total of 224 projects including screenplays, novels, film criticism, short stories, poems, as well as personal documents, drawings, and photographs, already digitized according to ISAD-G standards, with their originals held at the Brazilian Cinematheque. This precious legacy of ideas and creations joins forces with the BNDES's sensitivity to restore the films Di, Glauber, História do Brasil, and Amazonas, Amazonas, thus reclaiming the true purpose of this preservation work, initiated in 1982 by Lúcia Rocha, the filmmaker's mother, at the unforgettable Tempo Glauber on Rua Sorocaba, 190 in Rio de Janeiro. This trajectory is integrated into the policies of preservation and memory of Brazilian audiovisual media.
For the realization of this project, we relied on the dedication of BOX CULTURAL and Paloma Cinematográfica, the emblematic João Socrates, an international personality in film restoration who set up a 4K scanner with a wet window RGB progressive 16-bit in São Paulo, thus allowing the characteristics of the film to remain in the digital format, and the esteemed preservation and laboratory teams of the Brazilian Cinematheque, JLS Studios, Cinecolor Digital, and Luba Filmes.

About box cultural
Box Cultural is an organization dedicated to associative activities linked to culture and art, focused on the study, research, production, staging, and presentation of theatrical plays, musical shows, cinematographic works, photographic works, and audiovisual works. It also engages in other cultural and educational activities, as well as in social communication and marketing, operating as an independent private law entity and being non-profit. Created in 1997, Box Cultural's mission is to bring together those interested in artistic activities so that, through study, research, and the presentation of collaborative works, they can better contribute to the communities in which its members are involved.

Based in Brasília, it has a renewed board of directors, comprised of professionals with extensive experience in large-scale cultural products – such as film and music festivals – as well as in the preservation of audiovisual and heritage icons, working with a strong emphasis on the dissemination and democratization of access to cultural assets, promoting the social return on investment and cultural value.
about Paloma Cinematográfica
PALOMA CINEMATOGRÁFICA has been active in audiovisual production since 2008 and has been based in Brasília since 2015. It has produced numerous documentaries for television and cinema screenings. Together with Tempo Glauber, it was responsible for the restoration of the Glauber Rocha film archive and the remastering of his work, which was re-released at major film festivals worldwide, digitally distributed in cinemas, on television, VOD, and DVD, and distributed in Europe, the USA, and Japan. It has produced film exhibitions, workshops, and training programs, notably in directing:
- 4K restoration of Glauber Rocha's film Deus e o Diabo na Terra do Sol, screened at the Cannes Film Festival in 2021.
- Antena da Raça, official selection at the 2020 Cannes Film Festival, Doc Lisboa 2020.
- Tentehar Arquitetura do Sensível, selected for the MEDIA LIBRARY INDUSTRY 2020, Visions du Réel International Film Festival Nyon, Switzerland.
